BALANCE in NATURE
We probably all have a memory of watching a nature programme on TV involving the hunting of an animal. 1... We watch as the hunted animal runs for its life. Eventually one animal will become tired. Perhaps the cheetah will go hungry, perhaps the gazelle will be hunted down. Children, watching their first encounter between predator and prey, will think the cheetah is cruel. 2... Of course, this is natural, but children don't always understand this. 3... The prey needs its predator, just as much as the predator needs its prey. 4... Without predators, the numbers of prey like gazelle would increase. In turn, the food the gazelle eats would become scarcer and, eventually, the gazelle (and other animals of prey) would be under threat because they would not have enough to eat.
