·Suggest an alternative way to invest in the area.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have just read an article 1... the idea of building a health centre for young people in our city. A Unsurprisingly / Probably, as an older citizen in the area, I am writing to express my 2... of this plan. Firstly, I am 3... to the plan because I do not feel sucha centre would be a good use of tax-payers'money. B Fortunately/ Sadly, young people rarely require medical services and, when they do, they have their parents to drive them to the health centre in the next town. C Obviously/ Interestingly, this makes the new health centre a low priority. I also strongly disagree 4... the need for a counselling service. D Probably/Certainly, I am in favour 5... helping today's youth develop into healthy adults. However, I believe that it is not the responsibility of doctors to give young people advice on relationships, but rather the parents and teachers'6... job it is to educate these children.

E Naturally / Surprisingly, there are a number of other ways in which money could be spent in the area 7... there is a great deal of heavy traffic passing through the centre. F Sadly/Hopefully, this has caused a lot of damage to the roads. Therefore, driving conditions are bad and it has become a danger to both drivers and pedestrians. This, I feel, would be the priority if the local council really 8... about their residents. G Certainly / Unfortunately, your newspaper ignores this urgent issue.

H Hopefully/Clearly, the council will listen to my suggestions. If they did, they 9... to do something about the more serious matter of the roads in our city centre before spending money on a health centre for young people.

Yours faithfully,

Arthur Ash
